Our New Report on Statewide Funding Inequities Busts Longstanding Myths About School Segregation
“Empire State Inequity: A decade of school funding disparity and its effects” tracks school district-level racial disparities across New York from 2011 to 2021 (the latest data available) and presents its findings with interactive data visualizations to encourage readers to dig deeply into the data provided.
Our Approach
Strategic Actions
Strategic actions to support the promotion of racially integrated schools and classrooms include: educational campaigns on the benefits of diverse learning environments, policy advocacy, promotion and support for existing racially diverse schools, promotion of evidence based integration models, professional development for teachers on diverse curriculum topics and reaching diverse student populations, and recruiting and retaining teachers of color.
Policy Priorities 2022-2023
The Education Equity Working Group (EEWG) is a corps of teachers, principals, superintendents, and advocates organized by ERASE Racism. The EEWG policy committee developed and is pursuing a five-point policy agenda that works to increase equity on Long Island. Read our policy priorities here.
Partnerships
ERASE Racism is committed to forming partnerships with other organizations that are working to address racial inequities in education.
National Coalition on School Diversity (NCSD)Â is a national network supporting a diverse group of constituents to advocate for and create experiences, practices, models, and policies that promote school diversity/integration and reduce racial and economic isolation in K-12 education. ERASE Racism President, Elaine Gross, serves on NCSD’s Steering Committee.
