Introduction:

For over twenty years, ERASE Racism has provided Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Training to organizations and school districts as a tool to dismantle Racism in all of its forms and discrimination, and create a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture. Our training focuses on providing participants with the foundational knowledge to understand the various forms of oppression and racism, a language and format in which to have conversations about race and racism, and the components of cultural proficiency to embed equity, inclusion, and belonging in our organizations, systems & structures. 

We also provide consulting and coaching for leaders and C-Suite executives who are responsible for the successful implementation and evaluation of Equity & Inclusion plans and changes to organizational culture.

Trainings:

ERASE Racism offers four (4)  foundational workshops to help individuals understand how they, communities, governments, and private and public organizations/institutions are impacted by various forms of racism and biases, including structural racism and implicit bias. Participants examine historical and contemporary examples and action steps to change individual behaviors and institutional policies, practices and cultures that perpetuate racial disparities, discrimination and segregation.

ERASE Racism offers four core trainings periodically throughout the year: 

  • Understanding the Equity Journey (for long term contracts)
  • Understanding & Unraveling Racism 
  • The Power of Language: Having the Conversation about Race
    • Navigating Conflict
    • Media’s depiction of different people
    • Assigning behavior to communities vs individuals
  • Disrupting Discrimination (Bystander Training)
  • Journey to Cultural Proficiency
  • Structural Racism on Long Island (optional)

Modules can be edited to meet geographic or sector specific needs. Additional training beyond these three modules can be developed for clients. In-person workshops can be developed as permitted given health and safety protocols at the time of the workshop.

Training Offerings & Descriptions

Understanding the Equity Journey

Participants will receive an in-depth view and understanding of the equity journey and begin the process of delving into the foundational actions that need to be taken to build strong DEI plans, assess and evaluate current plans, and complete any steps they may have missed.  Topics to be covered include:

  • Equity Process Steps
  • Navigating Change
  • Strategic Planning
  • Equity Alignment 
  • Evaluation

Understanding & Unraveling Racism 

During this interactive and engaging experience, participants will learn about the origins of race and racism in the US and begin to recognize themselves within systems of oppression. Gaining this fundamental understanding will allow participants to show up more authentically in your personal and professional life, raising your awareness of the intersectionality of race and oppression. Participants will also be introduced to shared language, definitions, and understanding of foundational concepts of oppression. 

Navigating Conflict: Having Difficult Conversations

A continuation of ERASE’s learning series, in this training you will build on the knowledge from Unraveling Racism to learn how to participate in challenging conversations about race, inequity, and diversity.  Participants will learn thoughtful and restorative practices to navigate conflict. During this training, participants  will identify their conflict archetype, unpack how their identity and socialization has contributed to their approach to conflict, and discern how to approach conflict in a way that honors their and others’ humanity.

Structural Racism’s Impact on Long Island 

Building on the foundation of understanding & unraveling racism and with a specific emphasis on housing and education, we utilize ERASE Racism’s Affordable & Inclusive Housing Tool and Education Reports to strengthen participants’ understanding of structural racism, and its legacy and devastating impact on Long Island.

Disrupting Discrimination (Bystander Training)

Would you like to gain more confidence talking about race and racism? Are you unsure of what to do if you witness someone say or do something derogatory or discriminatory? Are you afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this training will help you begin to gain the skills and confidence to talk about race/racism and disrupt discrimination.

Journey to Cultural Proficiency

Participants will gain an understanding of what it takes to create equitable and inclusive organizational cultures that center belonging and excellence. Participants will understand the Elements of Cultural Proficiency and the necessity of utilizing cultural audits and analysis to guide the development and evaluation of organizational cultural competency and proficiency.

Consultation

Executive leaders and administrators are oftentimes asked to implement Diversity, Equity & Inclusion plans without the requisite knowledge to offer support and  ensure success. ERASE Racism is ready to guide and support organizations as they create and maintain racially equitable and inclusive cultures. A lackluster roll-out and a lack of tangible success frequently leads to disposable plans and rollbacks of any changes made to practice and policy. Our partnerships provide an invaluable framework and foundation for supporting organizations in actualizing their goals.
